Penang is noted for its street food and leisurely pace. It has some heritage sites that are worth a visit.
Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion (www.cheongfattzemansion.com) known as the Blue House is open from Monday to Friday 11 am to 3 pm. Weekends and Public Holidays 11 am only. Entrance fee is RM 12.
This is worth a visit as it is guided and the furnishings are authentic. There are 6 rooms for rent.
Another is a Peranakan house where the mini-series "Little Nyonya" was shot. It was completely renovated and furbished. Moreover there is a guide to show you around.
If you want to get out to Penang Hill to visit Kek Lok Si Temple. Take a bus from Komtar bus terminal the fare is RM 2.
Little India is relatively small and is near Peranakan House. A walk takes you back to India.
From airport to Georgetown is RM 50. As most the sites in town are close to each other I recommend walking. Made a mistake of taking a taxi to Khoo Kongsi from Komtar and it costs me RM 10 fixed fare. Drivers refuse to use meters. The journey is 1 km, a very expensive trip!
Gurney Drive is famous for its food and patronised by tourists. However I was recommended to go to Short Street where only locals go. Must say I am please with the price and quality. Short Street is a short distance from Komtar which is the tallest building in Penang.
